Seniors Alf Haines Chapman
19th February 2024
With good use of the Winesy soft soap approach to life we were given approval to use trollies today. (But we have been told not for Tues and Weds). So all 26 signed up players could go out.
Ray has had the unfortunate experience before of watching a group of seniors all trying desperately to work out 60% of that and 40% of this, and its not a pretty sight. So being the very kind chap he is, he had prepared our score cards. Although some had 'card', cards , others had paper cards. I suspect he gave the paper ones to those pairs he assessed as being low scorers as their card would matter less. Tim and I had one !
The Chapman game can result in some 'fallings out' since there is heavy reliance on partners to match your own performance. A test can be to observe who doesn't come into the clubhouse to share a drink afterwards! As we came in right at the end I can't share any inside information, but I'm sure some went missing!
It was a bit of shock to actually have to hit balls out of the long grass and from bunkers where there were no white lines, so that must have impacted quite a lot. But nevertheless overall scores were pretty good.
This years Bandit (Richard F), playing with Kevin B, came up with the top shelf score, winning with 41 points. (Have to go back to 2019 to get that low, 44 last year and 48 in 22!).
Taking 2nd place was Kevin S and H. on 40 points, over two pairs on 39.
Very well done to the winners.
