Fantasy League Golf 2020 - Update 3
As we know Simon is recovering and rightly decided that he couldn’t give time and attention to the FL for the remainder of this year. I said, with some trepidation, that I would step in the interim to keep it operational so that all his good work on this so far doesn’t just get lost along the way. Don’t expect too much - Simon’s unique and rather special approach cannot be matched. But I will try and add some interest along the way if I can.
There are some dates in history that everyone just instinctively knows.
Date Answer
6th June 1944 ?????????????????
30th July 1966 ?????????????????
20th July 1969 ?????????????????
14th October 1066 ?????????????????
*Just fill in the blanks and e-mail me the answers. A sleeve of balls will go to the winner drawn on Monday 3rd August after the Swindle on Friday 7th August.
Now we can add another date to that list - 13th May 2020. This was the date that Warley Park Golf Club re-opened after lockdown. After weeks and weeks of crosswords, jigsaws, painting, gardening and going on local walks that we didn’t even know existed we were free to enjoy playing golf again. It makes you think how we take the simple pleasures of life for granted sometimes and don’t always appreciate how fortunate we are. As Les said to me whilst we were playing the Summer Wines competition earlier this month missing that four foot putt pales into insignificance compared to what some people have experienced this year. There’s nothing like a global pandemic to bring us back to reality. Thank goodness we appear to be getting back to something nearing normal again.
I have to say that although the Seniors golfing calendar for the year has been somewhat decimated, thanks to the sterling efforts of a few and, in particular, Gordon and Mike, we are now able to fully enjoy the Swindle and, more recently, to participate in competitions for handicap purposes. Thanks Guys - from all of us.
Congratulations are due to the following competition winners
Yellow Peril Henry Vials and Geoff Jackson 117 points
4 Seasons 1 Simon Hall 44 points
The Mulligan Peter Crutchett 44 points Summer Wines Medal Dave Skinner 43 points
Classic Trophy Roger Tallentire 41 points
Clearly the standard of Seniors golf is extremely high. It must be all the practice everyone is getting!!
For those of you who are unhappy with the performance of their Fantasy Team(s) I can now inform you that the transfer market is open at £1 per transfer.
I have been in contact with Mike Smith and he informs me that he is slowly feeling better which is great news.
Finally, all of our best wishes go to the guru of the Warley Park Seniors Fantasy League. We hope, Simon, that you are feeling better and better each and every day. We are all missing you and look forward to the time that you will feel well enough to join us for a coffee and a cake after the Swindle. Hopefully that will be soon.
NB All bonuses have now been included and transfers costing £1 can now be made without any loss of bonus points.
Graham
