Warley Wayward Wanderers June 2019
Laon /Chamouille /L'Ailette / Arras
After Simon's last "Fanasy" note, I thought I should pen a few words on the trip to Laon/Chamouille /L'Ailette / Arras.
An early scare by yours truely had the 3 cars down at Folkestone a little earlier than necessary. (I had travelled to France 3 days earlier and had a long delay at French Border Control).
The 3 cars and a bike arrived at L'Ailette in plenty of time for our 2.00p.m. tee time.
Due to Roger's incapacity, golf was a no no for him, but bike travel was fine. Unfortunately his tyre had deflated, as was Roger.
The evening meals, including the wine, seemed to agree with most palates and the post meal, for some, went into the early hours. We did however need some French verbal chastisement when the volume of the team reached 8 decibels.
Tony and Roger commandeered the pool table with some fine potting, NOTE not putting.
Wednesday morning was "at leisure" in Laon; Tony deciding not to make the rain drenching tour of the town. Paul, at least, did not have a "ramless" few days -- Simon's pic on the Fantasy note refers.
Wednesday p.m. golf was relatively dry, Tony and Steve, however, had the new French style buggy "push it yourself ." This didn't seem to affect Tony's pool arm in the evening.
And so to the trip to Arras, and then onward home. Roger had his time mapped out around Arras but was self - thwarted by having to return to Laon to retrieve his laptop and camera. And the rain came pouring down !!!!!! and on returning to the Arras clubhouse after golf, the kitchens were closed.
Not the best ending to what most thought were a good few days away.
OH yes ---- there was golf with Paul, Simon and yours truely winning one each of the three games, and Simon coming home with "the yellow jersey ."
Other bits of tittle tattle, of course, come under the umbrella of "what goes on on tour, stays on tour " -- except for Roger.
A few pics might be of interest and if there are any thoughts from the Warley Wayward Wilkins Wanderers, feel free.
