Ash's Days Out
1st Away day : Hartswood Golf Course on Weds 28th April
The 1st awayday of the year at Hartswood was a cold, windy, cloudy day. Hartswood are rebuilding the clubhouse so the 1st tee was moved forward to make the 1st hole just a 180yd par 4. No surprise then that there were several birdies and 2 eagles (Dave Skinner and Paul Shooter).
With the 7th and 18th holes shortened with temporary greens and bucket sized holes, good scores were expected. However, as the round progressed, it became evident that the heavily sanded (and tined) greens would play a big part in pegging back the scoring. Last summer Hartswood was in great condition, but not this year as lockdown and cold April weather has taken its toll on the course.
In the end the winner was Les Polden with 39pts. Runner up was Bill French on 38pts with a better b9 than Kim Hansen, who was 3rd.
Nearest to the pin was Gordon Allen who took home the bottle of wine. Gordon described it 'as an amazing drive over bunkers onto a difficult to hold green' - although Robbo, who shared the green, reminded us that his was a birdie!'
