Senior Captain's Drive-In and Jack Wisbey Cup
held on Monday 27th January 2020
The January weather proved to be reasonably mild if rather wet and heavy underfoot for the Senior Captain's big Drive-In day and Jack Wisbey Cup competition.
The Captain's drive-in golf swing certainly starts low and finishes high and at 29 yards over the ditch was a pretty impressive result under the usual pressure of a large audience! As Captain Steve said, "not quite as good as Kim's last year, but for me very pleasing."
So, Steve is off to a very good start and we look forward to another fine Captain's year ahead. I am sure we all wish him the best of luck and an enjoyable year.

The Jack Wisbey Cup - Results
Simon Hall (Spiggy) !
David Handley David Datsun
The Jack Wisbey Cup was keenly competed by 38 players, but the overall winner, 'Spiggy' Simon Hall, with 38 points, had to rely on a better back nine score to secure the cup from the two Dave's - David Handley and David Datsun, who came 2nd and 3rd respectively. But still no cut for Spiggy!
As Spiggy couldn't be at the lunch/presentation (No photo) he missed out on the separate Captain's prize for the 1st and 2nd best scores for players with handicaps under 18 or under, which went to the two Davids. NB Spiggy will be presented with the Jack Wisbey Cup on another occasion and might even get his photo up with the cup!

Drive -In Charity Fund
The Senior Captain's Drive-in over the ditch earned a grand total of £612.10! (Steve was less than clear where the 10p came in, although one or two possible names were mentioned on tables!). As usual half the fund was allocated to the best guessers and half to Steve's charity for the year. There were ten winners who got £30 each, although 3 kindly donated their winnings back to the charity fund.
Roger Tallentire
Delray Bussey
John Clare
Paul James
Nick Pulham
Peter Hill
Will Gilley
Bob Butler
Kim Hansen
plus a neighbour of Colin's (don't think we have had a neighbour before!)
Message from the Captain
I wish to thank all those involved in making it a successful day, particularly my Vice Captain, Colin, for handling the Drive-in board (never an easy task!) which resulted in an amazing figure of £402.10 being raised for my charity for the year - Brentwood Theatre Trust.
Thanks also to the Seniors officials whose organisation of the day made sure, as usual, that things went smoothly. And a very special thanks to all those who played and/or attended lunch and to everyone for their best wishes, presents and cards.
Thankyou, Steve.
