Results of the Ladies and Seniors Mixed Pairs Day
The last time we played the Ladies and Seniors mixed pairs was in April when we were just emerging from a period of extremely wet weather. We then enjoyed a period of summer - until the next Ladies and Seniors day today! Can the Vice Captain take a quick short course in weather detection before he fixes the dates for next year please!
Anyway, 52 (up on April) of us braved the wet and managed to get a full round of golf in.
The full set of results is set out below.
A supercharged team of Sir Simon and Tina Waldon amassed a 45 point score to take a clear victory - the gasps around the room were dramatic. But the ‘Headmaster’ steadied the room with the announcement that the Russian testing drug team were being brought in to carry out a programme of invasive testing, so all will be OK. Simon won’t be so pleased to be nearest the pin when that starts!
The CBBC team produced a very 'grown up' 39 points to take second place.
Third place was a close run thing, with Dame (or is it Lady?) Hughes producing some fine golf for the Allen-Hughes team in a round of 38, just pipping the Tyler-Walker team on count back.
Top prizes were in the form of gift vouchers. Here is a photo of mine! Does Ash (Treasurer, Fantasy Team Fashion Adviser and now Personal Shopper of all gifts) know something I don’t !
Another good shared day - only marred by the unfortunate illness of Senior Captain Graham to whom we all send our best wishes.
NB. I have noticed that a frequent topic of discussion around the table at these shared days is what men do (or rather don't do) at home. Now I wouldn't wish to stir matters up of course, but I thought I was doing pretty well with the mention last time that I actually cooked sometimes (and not just when Mrs Allen is cleaning my shoes), but was disappointed (no, sorry I mean impressed) to learn that Lord Benton cooks every evening. Anyway I now know why Simon's golf is so good - it seems he has lots of practice time! Perhaps we should do a a full scale statistical survey of this subject at the next Ladies and Seniors day!

Results of the Ladies and Seniors Mixed Pairs Day
A total of 36 ladies and seniors took part in the first of these two annual events. Although highly popular the numbers were a bit lower this year than previously. The very poor recent weather and uncertain ground conditions perhaps a big factor. But it turned out a pretty fair weather day with the course beginning to dry out nicely. The long rough was however a very challenging test for most players!
The full set of results is set out below. A staggeringly good 40 points for the winners, Paul James and Pam Gilley in tough conditions. Will Gilley decided to keep it in the family by taking 2nd place with Marilyn McGilvary (although it was alleged that all the M&S vouchers were quickly relocated into Pam's bag!).
The Seniors Captain and Ladies Captain gave a couple of excellent (short) speeches. The SC gently pointing out that he had been in places that day that he hadn't been before and spent some time in the rough! I hear lots of seniors saying 'more of that please!'. The jokes were also good and within the boundaries of good taste! Well done, particularly to Teresa for managing to get food and sex into her joke - just the right priority order of things for seniors!
Important Information:
Finally, during the course of events there was public reference to a certain lady having spent some time the previous day cleaning her husband's golf shoes - this resulted in much hilarity and not a little ridicule. As Website editor I have been requested to add a public rider to the story pointing out that at the time of said shoe cleaning the man in question was in the middle of cooking (YES a MAN COOKING) the Sunday roast!

NB Chapman Rules
- Both golfers hit drives;
- Each plays the other's ball for the second shots;
- The best of the second shots is selected, and from there the two partners play alternate shots into the hole.
