Minutes of seniors committee meeting Monday 26th October 2020
In attendance via Zoom 5.30pm start
Steve Abbott, Mike Trett, Ash Patel, Geoff Jackson, Colin Brown, Chris Vander and
Gordon Allen
The committee structure was discussed. It was agreed that the possibility of appointing a chairman to represent the seniors on other club committees and to act as a representative when liaising with Get Golfing would be raised at the forthcoming AGM. It was agreed that the positions of web site manager and swindle organiser would become full committee members. The current vacancy for a trophies manager was discussed and it was agreed the captain and vice captain would seek to make an appointment which can be ratified at the AGM. It was agreed this should also become a committee role.
The forthcoming AGM was discussed. This is likely to become a Zoom meeting due to the current restrictions. A final decision would be taken at the end of November when the position is clearer. Committee members were asked to produce their reports by mid November so that these could be circulated electronically. Whatever format is used for the meeting members would be invited to submit questions in advance.
The question of trophies for 2021 was discussed. It was agreed to discuss further after the appointment of a trophy manager. The eclectic competition was discussed and it was agreed no appointment was necessary as the Get Golfing web site calculates running totals . It was agreed that it would remain over 10 GOY competitions on a ¾ handicap basis . Chris volunteered to liaise with Keith Regan to ensure the right competitions are included and to adjust final result with handicap adjustment.
The Captain’s drive in was discussed and as the committee are proposing that Steve serve for next year it was agreed that a drive in would not take place. Steve advised the committee that he has been given free membership during 2021 and that he would make a donation to charity
Friendly matches for 2021 were discussed. We now have 18 matches arranged with the format to be decided . However they are likely to be on a more relaxed format that was used during the recent 4 trial matches
How best we communicate with Get Golfing was discussed. In the absence of a chairman it was agreed that all communications should go through Captain Steve and the club committees
The treasurer supplied his report to the committee along with some recommendations. It was noted that at the AGM our reserves are forecast to be in the region of £2600. The possibility of reducing entry fees for some competitions and not charging for others was discussed. Nothing was agreed upon as a number of issues need further clarification e.g do we get all the income from the competitions run by the club.
Competitions for 2021 were discussed . Mike has produced a comprehensive fixture list similar to previous years. Mike advised that all club competitions would be entered via the Clubs website. This would include all GOY competitions . The rest of our competitions would be run by ourselves and require us to book tee times and arrange draws. A number of our events traditionally have a two tee start I.e those that involve food. It remains to be seen if we can get two tee closures to facilitate these events. The new handicap system will come into effect in the near future. How this will operate in practice is not totally clear e.g swindle games could technically go through the system . The committees view was that we would only want official singles comps included whether run by GG or by ourselves.
The possibility of having a Christmas lunch was discussed along with the possibility of subsidising the event. It was agreed to revisit this subject in a few weeks tine when it will hopefully be clearer if we are able to hold an event.
Speed of play was discussed and it was agreed Gordon would remind everyone of their obligations via email.
Meeting closed at 7.00pm
Post meeting Mike was able to confirm he had received confirmation the Jack Wisbey, guest day and seniors captains day will be allowed two tee starts.
