Fantasy League Golf 2022
(And so a new round of Sir Simon's world of snitches, half truths and gossip in the 'best possible taste' begins!)
Pre season for the 2022 Seniors Fantasy League will start after Christmas so starting with the lunch on December 13th you are to submit your team(s) and pay your entry fee(s) of £10 for two teams or £5 for one. In truth I am more interested in the money at this stage. Teams must be in before the Texas Scramble on Feb 28th. This year I have appointed a young trainee to help me called Steve Bell. It is possible I will miss the lunch so Steve will stand in for me.
Please use the next few weeks to study form and identify those in form or injured players. Teams submitted early may be changed without fee before February 28th, but please note that you must obey the handicaps rules at the start so if any of your players have a handicap change before then you may have to change your team.
NOTE: I will not be picking teams for entrants this year. If no team is picked the entry fee will just go in the kitty!!
Entrance fees are split 50:50 between charity and prize money. Use e-mail where possible to submit your teams and send to:
simon.d.hughes@sky.com or text entries to 07767-278174 or stevebellybell@icloud.com on 07775 706015 or
just give them to one of us
I am of course always looking for stories about the league and its players so feel free to speak to me in confidence about anything that concerns you. My customer service promise means I will only share it with my readers if it is interesting or scandalous. We do of course welcome snitches to help us fill column inches in the newsletter
Some rules have changed so please read them carefully

RULES for 2022
- The Competition runs from February 28th 2022 (Texas Scramble) to November 28th 2022 (Turkey Trot). Any competition not played by then will be excluded. The league includes all seniors’ competitions EXCEPT the Captain’s Drive In, the Yellow Peril, the Alf Haines Greensomes, the Senior Captain’s Putter, Guest Day, Ladies and Seniors days, and the Scratch senior championship result. (The knockout competitions are included with scores calculated from fantasy teams listed just before the draw)
- Entry fee is £5 per team (max 2 teams each) and entrants should pick 3 senior golfers as their team. If you have 2 teams you must always have 6 different players so no double ups. You cannot pick yourself.
- The 3 golfers must have a total handicap of 54 or more when selected. They retain that handicap whilst in your team. Newly signed players go in at their current handicap (check you still meet the 54-point total rule at that point).
- All players will start at their actual club handicap index (as published on the App) on February 28th, but see limitation rules below.
- Any team can only include 1 of the following 8 new(ish)players namely: Bell, Day, Pearce, Powell, Sandford, Tringham, Wayman, Woodcock. This is because the editor has identified a certain amount of banditry in our newcomers (and also the new handicap system is a bit slower to react). You do not have to pick any of them if you don’t want to.
- For the purposes of picking teams ONLY any player over 28 handicap Index will be deemed to be 28 handicap index.
- NEW RULE. BONUSES. This year each team will receive a bonus at the end of April equal to the sum of the team handicaps minus 54 so if you pick a team of higher handicap players you will get a bigger bonus. If you make transfers before April 30th the total must be as least as high as your original team or the bonus is lost (I.e. bonus 0).
- AND, as an extra bonus, if you pick a player nobody else picks and keep them until April 30th you will get an extra 10-point bonus
- Points will be awarded as follows:
- Golfer of the year / singles competitions: 10 points for 1st down to 1 point for 10th. Includes Bogey, Net championship, 3 clubs and putter
- Pairs competitions: 8 points for 1st, 6 points for 2nd , 4 points for 3rd, and 2 points for 4th
- 3 or 4 player team competitions: 6 points for 1st, 4 points for 2nd, and 2 points for 3rd
- Singles knockout: winner 10 points, Runner up 8 points, Semi finalist 6 points, quarter finalist 4 points
- Doubles Knockout winner 8 points, Runner up 6 points, Semi finalist 4 points
- 10.Each entrant can change players up to 5 times per team at a cost of £1 per player
- 11.Entrants cannot select themselves
- 12.A list of regular senior players with current handicap indexes is provided but an entrant can select any club player they wish
- 13.The prize pot will be 50% of the money collected with the balance going to the senior captain’s charity. There will be 3 end of season prizes and 4 interim prizes at various points of the season
