2021 Ladies and Seniors - Mixed Pairs Competition
Wednesday 12th May 2021
A good turn out of 28 pairs for the Ladies and Seniors competition today. It was good to also see Dave Datson, Men's Captain, taking part. Well done to Steve and Liz for choosing a bright, warm and rain free day!
As far as I know there were no obvious glitches and so the golf went smoothly. Covid circumstances demanded a betterball format for this one, although anecdotally most seem too much prefer the more social Chapman format.
Lunch served on the patio was a simple jacket /salad affair and players appeared to enjoy the informality.
A good range of scores meant that 3 teams on 43 didn’t get into the top 3 prizes. They went to 3 pairs on 44, separated by back nine scores.
A very well done to those guys : Barbara Cormack and Steve Bell in 1st; Brenda Tyler and Richard Stephenson in 2nd and Wendy Moore and Paul Jackson in 3rd.
The best front 9 score went to Karen Powell and Ash Patel.
The best back 9 score went to Sue Murray and John Carter.
The four nearest the pins went to Terri Hayzer, Mary-Anne Hansen, Colin Brown and Chris Vander
Well done to all those guys.
Can’t say that the Ed had any reports of significant ‘in game' events, although there was quite a bit of friendly laughing and cackling going on around us. I think I heard Seniors Captain Vice - Colin, say that he didn’t turn his close nearest the pin on the 8th into a 2, although Dave Cormack turned his ‘not nearest the pin’ into a 2 on the 18. Mind you Dave also got nearest the pin on the 2nd, whilst playing the 3rd!
There were of course lots of very good shots in our group, but ‘young’ newcomer Neil Gennings probably topped the list with his very long, slightly wayward, drive into the trees on the right of 4th fairway - a long, narrow shot out round a tree placed it within 3 feet from the pin, followed by a confident putt, earned a well deserved birdie 3. Very impressive. Captain Steve really loves the competition of playing with him in their regular group and will now have to listen to his story of this hole all over again!
Our thanks of course to Captains’ Steve and Liz for a very enjoyable day (too polite to talk about scores!). And a special thanks to Chris Vander for all the organising on our behalf.
