Results from Ash's Away Day at Basildon GC
Friday 18th December 2020
It was an overcast but dry day for the trip to Basildon but it was MUDDY!!
Despite the mud, I think most people enjoyed the day. Certainly the organisers 4 ball had an entertaining day out with Kim and Ray beating Ash and Chris 2&1. A fantastic birdie (Eds note: this claim of 'fantastic' has not been verified!) by Ash putting 4 good shots together on the par 462yd par 5 3rd- D,7,W, 3 foot Putt. Kim played this hole well too but 5 was not good enough. KIm had a hot steak after he birdied the 12th - 19pts from the last 7 holes. He said on the dog leg right 12th, "I am going to play a silly shot as I don't get a shot here" A shot over the trees with a 3 wood was 20 yards short of the green, NOT SO SILLY!!, a chip and a putt registered a birdie for him. Not much to say about Chris and Rays round except 'better luck next time"
The 2nd 4 ball was Robbo, Bob, Joe and DC. Bob for some unknown reason only played 9. However, Robbo was his usual robotic self, registering 36pts containing 2 birdies; and Joe had a steady game.
The 3rd 4 ball was Webmiester, James, and the two Daves , Dave Skinner was top dog with 36pts, but well done Gordon for being the only golfer to score on every hole. Maybe not!! as he did admit to playing a wrong ball thereby incurring a 2 shot penalty and a blob. Congratulations to Dave Skeels for nearest to the pin on the 14th.
The Final 4 ball of the 'favourite' Spiggy, Doug, Geoff and Winsey. After scoring 38pts on Wednesday, Spiggy had an off day with just 30pts but like me, did birdie the 3rd, Geoff WAS the only golfer to score on every hole and win today with 38pts. Just shows, keep it straight, keep it in play and the points get accumulated. Doug also had a good game with a birdie on the 9th. He did have an advantage as he knew this course being an ex member.
So a good day out.
Congratulations to the winners
