Ash's Days Out
Away day 2022/23 : Stapleford Abbotts: Friday 20th January 23
On a cold but bright day, the seniors were at Stapleford Abbotts for the January awayday. Unfortunately the cold frosty morning was a bit too much for spiggy's car as it refused to start and he had to miss the day leaving his 4 ball with 3 players (Gordon/Tringham/Paton). What to do!!
Several suggestions were made that were not to Gordon's liking but we settled on Spiggy as 'Captain ghost' giving him 2 points every hole. When you scrutinise the scores that was a big advantage for Gordon's 3 ball (Ed. I don't think so!! Spiggy didn't get one par!!). My team captain only got 22 points!!
The low scoring was not surprising as the drives were not going very far and playing off hard icy fairways was not easy. On top of that the approach shots on to the hard, icy greens were difficult to judge.
Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable day (maybe some didn't enjoy it because of the conditions and low scoring). The food was good and Beth and her team looked after us well.
Congratulations to Capt Kev for a fantastic score of 38pts and winning everything, 1st in the swindle, captaining his team to a 1st place and winning the Prosecco that Roger kindly donated for nearest to pin. Also well done to Dave Handley for 2nd place in the swindle and Gordon for 3rd place.
Tables below
today's swindle placings, team placings and overall Awayday Cup leaderboard.
Remember you have to play a minimum 6 to qualify (average of the best 6). So if you had a low score today it's not the end of the world. Plenty more awaydays to improve your position in the table)
