DECEMBER 2022 FUN GAMES
Friday 9th December 2022
Today was the first of the team fun competitions. Five teams of three played a Texas Scramble in extremely testing conditions. With a very harsh frost the night before leaving rock hard greens and a bitterly cold wind making it particularly difficult to stay warm it was anticipated that good scoring would be very hard to come by.
In the end the scores were very close with only four shots between all five teams.
Ray Ash and Don 74
Bill Spiggy and Les 75
Robbo Mike T and Chris 77
Gordon Dennis and Dave S 77
Kim Roger and Kev 77
Thanks go to Roger for sponsoring the event - A bottle of fizz went to each of the winners.
Another £15 was collected to go towards Kev's charity

Wednesday 7th December 2022
On a bitterly cold morning 15 intrepid swindlers set off to play the Reds Yellows and Whites fun competition. Much of the early conversation revolved around the best warm clothing to wear and the best hand warmers to use. Gordon revealed that he was wearing a version of a thermal onesie whilst Robbo mentioned a range of hand warmers could be purchased from Amazon for approximately £20 - a nice little Xmas present.
Borrowed them from Dennis's bottom draw - they worked pretty good!
With the freezing cold temperature good scoring on the front nine proved to be extremely difficult. In fact only Bill and Sharpie managed to get to 18 points. However, as conditions became easier, the usual high scores on the back nine(Roger 25 Gordon 24 Dennis 23 and Bill 22) meant that overall scoring was quite impressive.
Top of the tree and taking a bottle of gin was Bill, closely followed by Gordon who received a nice little bottle of Prosecco.
Nearest the pin winners were :
3rd Don 8th Bill 14th Gordon 18th Henry
Bill very generously donated his £7 winnings to Kev's charity
The competition was sponsored by Robbo.

Friday 2nd December 2022
With the 2022 Swindle done and dusted today saw the beginning of the December fun competitions. The first of these was the Single Double Treble and for some just marking the card was a bit of a trial !! Having said that 16 fully completed cards were handed in and not one disqualification ensued! Early tactical chat in the clubhouse mostly revolved around which holes to choose for your treble points score and it was no surprise to find that every single person chose the eighth hole as one of these holes. Kev suggested it would be easier just to play the first 6 holes as single pointers, the next 6 holes as double pointers and the last 6 holes as treble pointers. However that would have taken out the tactical element!!
In our group of Gordon, Ian P, Roger and myself, much of the chat revolved around what was likely to be a winning score. Eventually we thought that 80 odd would be hard to beat. We also had a very good pairs match for the coffees which, as often happens, went to the last hole with Ian sinking a good putt to ensure victory. As you might expect the competition threw up one or two surprises and listed below are some of them -
Winning score 93 points - Ken
Best front 9 score - 44 points - Ken
Highest strokes on a hole - 11 on the 1st - Ken
Next highest strokes on a hole - 10 on the 14th - Ken
Best points score on a hole - 15 points on the 8th - Ken
Next best points score on a hole - 12 points on the 5th - Ken
And now for some from the others who played
Les, Ian and Dennis - 12 points on the 8th
Best back 9 score - 49 points - Ian P
Least blobs - 0 - Robbo and Kev
1 - Kim, Dave S and Dennis
Nearest the Pin - Kev
Overall a fun morning was enjoyed by the majority, although I understand that there were a couple of players who didn't enjoy the format. Hopefully, they will enjoy the forthcoming events. If anyone has any suggestions or would like to sponsor an event please let Gordon or myself know.
The £1 pot of £16 overall was split £8 to the winner and £8 to Kev's charity.
Gordon Sponsored the wine for 1st and 2nd and balls for the nearest the pins.
