- The Chairman gave a report on meetings he had attended with Get Golfing and has a member of the club committee, representing the Seniors Section. He reported it was attended by Dan Lucking acting CEO of Get Golfing, Noel Cooper who oversees golfing matters at Warley Park and Mel Reading in charge of catering issues. The Chairman said he thought that the minutes of such meetings should be distributed to all members of Warley Park, he would be asking Dave Handley another club committee member if this could not be done. He said communication or lack of with Get Golfing was raised as an issue. The CEO said that Get Golfing had a monthly newsletter. It was pointed out this was not specific to Warley Park and more could be done.
- This led to general discussion by the committee regarding communication within the club itself can be improved. If greater communication with other groupings within the club structure may help our section in the term. The matter of sharing our current Seniors Website with the whole men`s membership was discussed, if this were entirely feasible and beneficial to both parties. As we learned that Get Golfing are exploring the development of a member`s website the committee agreed to defer consideration to a later date.
- The Chairman then gave a brief report on the club committee meeting. He said the matter of the annual captain`s drive-ins had been discussed and that the club committee wanted all the club drive-ins to take place on the same day. The chairman pointed out that the senior`s make a special day of our drive-in with a competition and sit-down lunch afterwards. The committee decided that they would keep the current arrangements, but there was not an issue with the senior`s captain attending and participating in the official club day thereby showing our support and commitment to the club overall, we would just run our drive-in board and own arrangements on Jack Wisbey day.
- The Financial secretary had sent a report giving an update on the latest position. He recommended that the main section competitions entry fees should be increased from £2 to £3 to help cover certain costs and put the section`s finances in a healthier position. This was agreed by the committee.
- The Secretary gave an updated report saying the date for the senior`s away match with Maylands had to be moved, because of a problem that had arisen for them. A notice has been put on the Senior`s website.
- The Competitions Secretary said that John Powell had agreed to become his deputy, and had been helping with the draws, so he would be able to step up to run things in his absence. He said that recent fun events had been increasingly difficult to organize because of the weather conditions and many members cannot play if carry only. This makes team events and pairs competitions particularly difficult to organize if there are last minute dropouts. The committee thanked him for his efforts with this regard but thought although these events are an important part of the senior`s curriculum there may have to be a reconsideration of the decision to play all of the fun team and pairs events at the start of the year, although it had been done with the best of intentions. A review to take place later in the year.
- The winter singles and doubles were then discussed. The numbers involved and the fact that some matches did not take place for various reasons, meant that some semi-finals took place without teams having played a match. It was decided that the winter doubles be abandoned after this year, and that the winter singles be reviewed later in the year, with a view to seeing how successful it had been both by participation and financial viability. The summer knockouts will run normally.
- A discussion took place regarding recruitment into the Senior`s Section. It was pointed out that this had virtually stopped in recently. There are no longer any new members being introduced to the section via Get Golfing as had been the case in the past. The communication`s officer has produced a leaflet that has been placed in the changing rooms and given to Get Golfing to hand out where appropriate, pointing potential new recruits in our direction. This has also been circulated on the Members Private WhatsApp group. It was suggested we explore the possibility of advertising ourselves to the wider membership with a shorter and simpler form of message in the form of posters/flyers.
