Further to my Drive – In I feel it appropriate to circulate abridged notes of the points raised in my speech to those seniors who could not attend the day.
New Rules
2019 bring us some new rules of golf to contend with. So it's probably a good time to remind ourselves how important fair play is in our game and how much we rely on each other to get things right. Over the next couple of months I would encourage players to speak with their playing partners if in doubt about the way rules should be applied when taking shots, e.g around taking drops, movement and marking of balls on greens. It is always better to seek clarification before taking a shot rather than having your playing partners find that they need to question your actions. I know I would hate to get something wrong inadvertently. More than ever, with the new rules, we should be relying on the good will and integrity, which we have in abundance, of the players in our Section.
Inter Club Matches
In addition to the current Inter Club team selection notification procedures, I will be making more use of the high levels of IT competency now in the seniors (it is true!) by emailing all team members at least 2 days before every match to request confirmation from players that they are still available to play. This will hopefully mitigate the need for last minute changes that have caused us some issues in the past.
The Fixture List
At the AGM, I promised to canvass opinion on the Fixture List. What I have already found out is that this means different things to different people and that a fair number don’t believe there to be an issue. I will continue to talk to folks, but I am also happy to receive emails if you feel this a better way to record your views.
Carried Forward Surplus on Snr. Section Bank Account
At the AGM the Committee committed to seek ideas from members on how best we could utilise the excess funds currently sitting in the Section’s Bank Account. I and the committee will continue to talk to folks, but again happy to receive emails if you feel this a better way to record your views.
