Senior Captain's v Vice Captain's Putter : Match play Comp 2023
The big annual crunch Blues and Reds team match between the Captain and Vice Captain lived up to expectations. Played in very hot, humid conditions with some very long grass to contend with, stamina played a part!
Kim and Dave Watt were drafted in late in the day to make up a doubles match at the front, which turned out to be in effect a battle of the buggies - they could have saved their fuel as it was all square after 18 holes.
I'm not going to mention Match 2!
Capt Kev was looking slightly smug when we came in with the result of match 3, but found that his strong middle team of Kevin and Ash had come unstuck against the 19 shots held by Mega bandit RichFish. But at least it would have been an even 20 each, rather than a 1 shot difference, had the Red team not sunk a long putt on the 18th to half the hole.
Capt Kev showing signs of more nerves now, but was very relieved to see match 4 come in with a 1 shot swing in his favour to bring the overall result back to all square at 26.
That new found confidence was quickly shattered though when teams 5 and 6 came in in quick succession with results that took the Red team well in front overall.
As Vice Capt Mike didn't actually win his own match, I'm not sure we can really say he deserved it! but he did get to hold the winning board up.
Meanwhile Capt Kev, having spent hours and hours in his shed fashioning the booby prize, found he had to award it to himself. There was a little disbelief around the room when he tried to convince us it was a wooden spoon! I think what's in your mind is far more appropriate!
The winning team were all awarded with a stip of Kirkland Signature balls by Kev - I took the trouble to check these out afterwards before I passed onto Sue for use, but found to my surprise that they have a very good press. Placed not far below Pro V1 in quality. So they're now in my bag!
Well done Captain and organisers, a very enjoyable morning.
