Swindle 'Extra' Result: Played Wednesday 18th July 2018
Third Swindle Extra : Prizes Sponsored by your Seniors Captain
The Swindle Extra – Trilby Tour Special
Trilby Tour Competition
The Seniors Captain’s latest hosted Swindle Extra took place on Wednesday 18th July. 14 men of fashion turned up to don their Triblys and try and play some good golf in very hot conditions. Many actually did so with some good scores on the day. “Triby” was rather loosely defined and varied from Bob Ds desert style hat to Simon Hs attempt to style himself on ‘Popeye’ Doyle from the ‘French Connection’. Although no one played musical chairs there was some passing around of hats before the start.
We played the usual swindle, using swindle handicaps, but also scored the games off full club handicaps.
At the end of the game the four players with the highest point scores (I’ll come back on that) had to trek back up to the 18th tee to take part in a ‘play off’ hole to determine the 1st to 3rd places.
Before we got to the ‘four’ though, there were some interesting developments. Seniors are not noted for being too serious about their golf, but you can be too relaxed cant you? Anyway, 2 of the highest scoring (1st and joint 2nd) decided that they were either (a) too tired to walk back up the 18th or (b) needed to get off to do the shopping, or some other lame excuse!
So, without naming the two less than energetic dropouts, we had Kim clearly out in front with 39 points, but with 4 other contenders all on 38 points. So in line with Graham’s dictate, the 4 had to take part in a ‘chip off’ (not related to the cheesy chips that Doug had appeared with at that point!) to determine the 3 players to join Kim.
That resulted in Barry Mac being eliminated.
The four remaining player that then went onto the 18th to play for final places were:
Kim Hansen
Dave Skinner
Dave Skeels
Rodger Tallentire
A cheering crowd (well about 8 or perhaps it was 7 of us (as Peter W appeared to be having a doze) gathered to observe the conclusion of the Trilby Tour.
Scores on the 18th resulted in Dave Skeels being knocked out and with Roger Tallentire getting 3rd place.
As they had halved the 18th hole, Kim Hansen and Dave Skinner then had a three hole ‘putt off’ (despite what Simon thought he heard!).
Kim emerged a 2-1 winner to settle the day’s results – so congratulations to him
Prizes provided by the Senior Captain for the ‘Trilby Tour’ were then presented to the winners and runners up.
Swindle
The scores off the current swindle handicaps and winners for the day were:
Our thanks to Graham for organising the Trilby event as a bit of extra fun as part of our swindle.
Kim (our Trilby winner and Senior Captain for next year of course) has invited suggestions for a ‘WHat? Hat” type of event to hold next year as part of his reign!! Well I might have made that bit up I think.
