SWINDLE 2022

Final Report of 2022 Season
The Seniors Swindle has always been a fun way to spend your Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday morning and what could be better than adding a healthy element of competition! 2022 certainly had plenty of that, which contributed to a fascinating battle to find the Swindler of the Year.
The year started with some fine weather and this certainly contributed to the large number of swindles we have had. I am sure Gordon will correct me if I am wrong but I think we have had more swindle days this year (80) than any previous year.
Given that we play the Swindle over 48 weeks the maximum number of Swindles could be 3 x 48 = 144. Taking out all the Seniors Competitions, Inter Club matches etc (51) there were only 17 days when a Swindle did not take place!
There is no doubt whatsoever that the standard of golf played in the Swindle has improved greatly. The number of 40+/ 42+ scores have gone up dramatically. Virtually every player has managed to do this at least once and some many more times. In total there were 81 scores of 40 or more!!
Does anyone remember the 40 point ball markers Gordon bought and gave to those who achieved this feat? Who has still got one? If he had done this this year, he would be needing a quite substantial bank loan!
And so to the Swindler of the Year award – considered by many to be the trophy to win after the Golfer of the Year and Seniors Championship.
This is usually a very close run affair and so it proved to be again this year.
Going into the final month Dennis, Kev, Ash, Robbo, Kim and Tim were still all in with a shout of taking the trophy. Some had since blown their chance and with one Swindle to play it was down to a three horse race. Being the current leader, Dennis remained the favourite. He could not finish in the prize money, but neither could Kev or Ash, and so it is congratulations to Dennis.
Notable achievements in 2022
As in previous years the money collected was spread around when distributed as prize money. Nobody became a millionaire, but neither did they become a pauper!
Finally, although I gather from most people they think that the Swindle rules work well Gordon and I will be reviewing them in December to see if any small changes are necessary for 2023.
