Ash's Days Out
Away day 2022/23 : Belhus GC 28th June 23
On a sunny, windless, warm day ideal for golf, there was a good turnout of 24 Warley Park Seniors at Belhus Golf and Country Club. The course was tight with many trees, but not much rough, or many hazards. The fairways were very dry and the ball was running, bunkers were poor and greens were slow.
The round didn't start too well for Gordon, late on the tee, 1st drive in the rough (ball lost) and the tee shot off the 2nd hooked over the trees onto the 1st Green (he assumed lost ball) and a blob on the 3rd (maybe another lost ball). However he recovered well after that.
I thought the short course would suit the players with bags of shots who hit the ball straight if not far and that proved to be the case. Half the field scored 36 or more and John Powell scored 44, but still did not get a cash prize. 3rd went to Ken Paton who also scored 44, but had a better back nine of 24. In form Les was second with 45pts, and Simon, recent winner of Robbo's charity day, again smashed it with 48pts. Well done to all the winners.
The team game results were quite interesting. 2 teams on 93pts, but team 1 of Hansen/Vander (41) and Hughes/Harris (52) took the wine on count back.
Nearest to pin was Andy Sargent
It was a cheap and cheerful day which was enjoyed by all. Excellent food served by friendly staff and certainly worth a visit in the summer months. I may introduce 75% of course handicap next year as the course is too easy😀😉
Leading the race for the Awayday Cup is today's winner Simon.
