Welcome to the Seniors' Section at Warley Park Golf Club.
I was honoured and delighted to have been invited to be Captain of Warley Park Seniors in 2020. I look forward with some trepidation to my term in the hot seat, with the hope that the Section will continue to be a welcoming and inclusive group. I thank my predecessor, Kim Hansen, who was a fabulous captain, the Committee and past Seniors’ captains for their words of wisdom during my year as Vice Captain. I will certainly continue to seek their advice as I go through my year.
I am inheriting a Seniors’ Section that is to the forefront of golf at Warley Park, built on the dedication and hard work of a special brand of people, namely the Seniors’ Captains and Committee Members, past and present. My main aim for 2020 is to uphold the tradition of providing fun, social golf with a healthy element of competition, and to ensure that all new members receive an open and warm welcome.
One of the big strengths of the Seniors’ Section is its comprehensive and up to date website. We are playing 10 clubs in our “ Friendly “ matches including for the first time Top Meadow and Orsett and I am sure I can rely on your support in ensuring we always field a full team of 16. In addition, we have Winter and Summer knockouts, 10 Golfer of the year competitions, Seniors Championship, numerous individual and team competitions as well as regular swindles on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Outside the club we have 4 Autumn / Winter Away Days, monthly “ Network Days “ and a 2 day Seniors Golf Break following on from the success of Dale Hill and Ufford Park. If this is of interest, you are 55 or older and want to play golf within a vibrant atmosphere then please contact either myself, or Geoff Jackson, Seniors’ Secretary, at the addresses listed on the Welcome Page.
My chosen Charity is Brentwood Theatre Trust, an organisation that is very close to my heart. As many of you know, Glenda was passionate about the Arts in general and Brentwood Theatre in particular. Sport and the Arts have a lot in common and a big role to play in our ageing society. I invite all seniors to support this cause in whatever way they can throughout the year. In particular the Theatre is organising a Fund Raising Golf Day on Saturday 30 May at Burstead and I hope many of you and your wives will support the event.
I am thrilled that Colin Brown has agreed to be my Vice Captain and we both wish you a fantastic 2020 filled with good golf and a lot of fun.
